Akylbek has been specializing in legal advisory services on antitrust and corporate law, real estate matters and regulation of new areas of digital economy (blockchain, cryptocurrency) for over 10 years. His experience, among other things, includes involvement in the large-scale transactions on the acquisition and alienation of businesses, assets and rights in various industries for a wide range of clients, from major Kazakhstan companies to transnational corporations, due diligence, effective obtainment of approvals from state authorities. He also develops Pharmaceuticals, Healthcare and Life Sciences practice - one of new practices of the firm. 

Prior to joining Zan Hub team, Akylbek was the Senior Associate and head of Kazakhstan antitrust practice in a large international law firm.

Akylbek actively develops legal practice not only as part of his work with clients, but also as part of legislative and other professional activities. He was one of the first commercial lawyers who took part in preparation of the Scientific and Practical Commentary on the Business Code of Kazakhstan (Section 4).


For active social work and contribution to the development of antimonopoly legislation and practice of Kazakhstan, Akylbek was recently honored with the highest professional award (medal) - “Excellence in antimonopoly legislation and practice


Practical experience


  • Major international petroleum company: advising on the Kazakh part of the transaction in connection with merger of the world’s largest oil & gas companies (including obtaining approvals from the Kazakhstan state authorities). The transaction was awarded the largest oil & gas deal of the decade

  • Major pharmacy chain in Kazakhstan: representing the buyer in acquisition of the pharmacy chain (including due diligence, drafting transaction documents and obtaining approvals from the Kazakhstan state authorities)

  • Major cement company worldwide: advising on the Kazakh part of the transaction in connection with acquisition of controlling stake of the other world’s largest cement company (including obtaining approvals from the Kazakhstan state authorities)

  • Transnational food and trading corporation: advising on acquisition of a controlling stake of a large confectionery factory in Kazakhstan (including obtaining approvals from the Kazakhstan state authorities)

  • One of the largest European beer producers: advising on acquisition of businesses and assets in Russia and Kazakhstan

  • Advising various international and local companies on a wide range of Kazakhstan antitrust issues (such as anticompetitive agreements, economic concentration, antitrust compliance, drafting commercial policies, allowance and bonus policies, etc.)

  • Representing various international and local companies in connection with execution of lease agreements with largest business centers and shopping centers in Kazakhstan
